  • Company invests €8.6 million
  • Opening planned for Q1 2025

Darmstadt, July 6, 2022 – With the construction of a new health center, the science and technology company Merck is expanding the range of healthcare services available to its employees at the Darmstadt site. The center will offer a wide range of fitness and health training, physiotherapy and health advice for employees over an area of around 1,500 square meters. The new health center will have a physiotherapy practice, a large training area and two course rooms.

Merck is investing €8.6 million in the building, which is expected to open in Q1 2025, east of Frankfurter Straße near the Merck daycare center. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2023.

“Health and personal well-being are the basic requirements for a high quality of life and job satisfaction,” emphasizes Matthias Bürk, Head of the Darmstadt site. “With the Health Center, we can significantly expand the health services we offer our employees. At Merck, we look out for each other – that is an important part of our corporate culture.”

“The extensive range of services, coupled with short distances and a coordinated care concept, is an important part of our efforts to provide holistic health management at Merck,” says Manfred Gertig, Head of Health & Prevention.

News Release

Merck certified with the German Seal of Corporate Health in Gold

In March 2022, Merck’s occupational health management was awarded the German Seal of Corporate Health (DSUG) by the BKK umbrella organization for its innovative and systematic health concept, achieving the highest seal level in gold. Only five of the more than 40 companies that have been certified so far have achieved this highest level of certification. Merck scored points with offers such as the “Training Island”, which are mobile fitness buses in production, or the new break offer “Time Out”.

Health center with sustainable building concept

The Health Center also reflects Merck’s corporate responsibility in terms of sustainability. The building will be designed in accordance with the Gold Standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB): the use of selected, sustainable building products will enable resources to be used more efficiently and will simplify the process of dismantling the building. The building is supplied with the necessary energy using the first fuel cell to be installed at the site, a heat pump and photovoltaics. A fully automatic irrigation system with a rainwater cistern ensures that water is used sparingly for the outdoor facilities.
